I have studied and researched digital technologies and artificial intelligence for 40+ years since my studies at Helsinki University of Technology (nowadays Aalto University) in the 1970s. There I studied for the famous AI pioneer prof Teuvo Kohonen. I made by Master thesis about machine vision, a work that led me to work in Decon Oy for some years developing system for visual inspection of boards in sawmills.

My main career I spent at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland as scientist, senior scientist, team leader, laboratory manager, deputy division director and research professor in digital services. I also served in various European fora, including the boards of Big Data Value Association and AI, Data and Robotics.

After retiring from VTT, I continue my work in my NextAI company that provides research and consulting services. Currently, my main activity is in the Adra-e EU project.
